Navigation problems persist in the Itajaí and Navegantes Channel due to bad weather

Since 10/04, the Itajaí and Navegantes Canal, located in Santa Catarina, continues to face serious navigation difficulties. This challenging scenario is due to adverse weather conditions, which made it impossible for ships to maneuver due to the strength of the current in the Itajaí-Açu River.

Faced with this situation, some ships chose to bypass Portonave, the company responsible for the terminal, and are heading towards Santos to transship their cargo. Subsequently, these vessels must return to the cities of Imbituba, south of Santa Catarina, and Itapoá, in the north of the state. It is worth noting that these two ports are not being affected by the current and continue to operate normally, although they are under constant monitoring of operating conditions.

Portonave issued a statement informing that access to the port complex remains closed and there is no forecast for its reopening. However, the company continues to closely monitor operations and is committed to minimizing the impacts of this challenging situation on maritime transport in the region.

This update reflects the current challenges that the port community of Itajaí and Navegantes is facing due to unfavorable weather conditions, with ships seeking alternatives to guarantee the flow of cargo in the region. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
