Foreign Trade in Espírito Santo Grows 30.2% in Q3 2024

Foreign trade in Espírito Santo saw a significant growth of 30.2% in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to data released by Connect Fecomércio-ES. This increase was primarily driven by imports, which rose by 42.3%, while exports experienced an 18.2% increase.

Performance of Espírito Santo’s Imports and Exports
The state’s imports totaled BRL 3.33 billion, surpassing exports, which amounted to BRL 2.79 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of BRL 535.33 million. On the national level, Brazil recorded a trade surplus of BRL 17.5 billion, with exports totaling BRL 88.4 billion and imports reaching BRL 70.9 billion, marking a 6.8% growth in international trade.

Main Products and Trade Partners of Espírito Santo
Among the products imported by Espírito Santo, vehicles and aircraft accounted for 34.3% of the total, followed by coal, which represented 10.6% of imports. In exports, the highlight was iron ore, with a 24.8% share, followed by unroasted coffee (20.6%) and semi-finished iron and steel products (17.8%).

This diversification in the export portfolio reflects efforts to reduce reliance on primary commodities.

Destinations and Origins of Products
China and the United States stood out as Espírito Santo’s main trade partners, leading imports to the state with shares of 27.2% and 21.5%, respectively. For exports, the United States was the largest buyer, accounting for 28.1%, followed by the Netherlands and Canada, which mainly imported semi-finished iron and steel products, pulp, and unroasted coffee.

This scenario highlights the strengthening of Espírito Santo’s trade relations and the establishment of new markets for higher-value-added products, a strategic factor for the sustainable growth of foreign trade in the state.
