New Import Process 2022: What Has Changed?

Foreign Trade has been undergoing a series of changes in recent years. These changes aim to benefit Brazilian companies involved in import and export by making them more competitive in the international market through increased logistical and technological efficiency in the country and reduced operational costs. Many of these measures are directly related to the public sector, which works with different agencies across various sectors, potentially making Brazilian foreign trade increasingly favorable for our entrepreneurs.

On October 1, 2018, the new import process came into effect, bringing several benefits such as increased speed and cost savings for local companies. According to the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade, and Services (MDIC), this will lead to a reduction of US$23 billion in annual costs for the sector, along with a reduction in import times from 17 days to 10 days due to the new streamlining measures.

Before the implementation of the Single Import Declaration (DUIMP), both the Import Declaration (DI) and the Simplified Import Declaration (DSI) were required. However, the DUIMP has emerged as a centralized electronic document that consolidates all the information necessary for cargo clearance, including tax, fiscal, commercial, and customs data, providing all required information to the regulatory agencies at once.

Another change brought by the new process is the product catalog, one of the modules of the Siscomex Single Portal, where all product attributes are registered. The importer can generate the DUIMP using the registered data, simplifying the assignment of the correct NCM (Mercosur Common Nomenclature), for example.

Another convenience introduced by the new import process is the CCT (Cargo and Transit Control) module, which replaces the Mantra system and facilitates interaction between carriers and freight agents with the Federal Revenue, significantly speeding up the process.

In addition to these changes, other areas have also benefited, such as payments, which are now processed more simply and automatically through Siscomex. The Centralized Foreign Trade Payment (PCCE) system also helps with tax calculations based on your region.

Is your company benefiting from these and many other new features and conveniences introduced by this new process?
